Card Game

Scofflaws is a 4-6 player party game designed so that no matter how bad the hand you’re dealt is, if you’re cunning enough you can turn the game around. This is an ongoing project between Max Cronce (Design & Original Art) and Jake O’Neill (Redone Art)

The Characters (Thus Far)

You can download the rules and the character sheet above, but here’s a quick rundown. All players begin the game anonymously. They then attack, defend, heal, use skills, and try to expose each other until someone is declared the winner. While everyone can win the game by eliminating all the other players, each character has their own abilities that let them progress towards their own unique goal in order to nab a win.

The Grifter

A sneaky trickster who wins the game by stealing cards from his unsuspecting opponents either by using his quick fingers or by kicking his fellow man when they’re down.

The Dirty Cop

A detective with some mud on his name who defeats his opponents by outwitting them and exposing their identities.

The Psycho

A bloodthirsty hunter who can slip a bomb into an unsuspecting player’s hand and only becomes more vicious once he’s been outed.

The Cannibal

The Cannibal is a dangerous animal who can recover their life by feasting on others and has a tendency to lash out when cornered.

The Enforcer (Being re-worked)

A pragmatic thug who unlike his fellow criminals prefers brute force and outright threats to any form of subterfuge.

The Arsonist (Being re-worked)

The Arsonist is a sneaky scoundrel who quickly warms up to people and valuables right before burning them to the ground.

Here’s some examples of my work. Some of it was done for class projects, some was done on my own, and some are a combination of the two.

Thalassophobia is an experimental tabletop RPG where the GM is the primary antagonist of the party. I made it over the course of four weeks in a class. It’s free to download & play.

InVersus is a frantic party game for 2 - 4 players being developed for a capstone project by a small group of UCSC students.

I’m working as Design lead and Co-producer on the project.

A unique 4-6 player party card game about deception, anonymity, and cheating.

Keep It Together

An abstract puzzle platformer in which you must tear off your limbs to progress. This was a joint project between Max Cronce, Jake O’Neill, and Ethan Chong. Aside from trying out some level design this was also intended to get across a certain tone without using words.

The Woodsman

A noir style twine game about a murder. There’s a twist though: you control both the killer and the detective.  While a single playthrough might be quick, with 200+ unique screens, 19,000+ words, and 20+ endings there’s plenty  of different paths to explore.
